Galaxy Z Fold3 quick experience: Sometimes I forget this screen has a mole...

Until then, the mid-year season is the time for Samsung's high-end Galaxy Z series smartphones to bomb the global market. So what's special about this year's version? Below is my early experience with the Galaxy Z Fold3.

Appearance hasn't changed much

Some people think that this year's version has not changed in terms of appearance and is a bit disappointed with Samsung. However, for me, what this company did on the 2nd version last year was too good and I really don't want them to change too much in terms of design.

Before the product launch, I interviewed a few tech experts about their expectations on the 3rd version of the Galaxy Z Fold series. At that time, I also formed in my mind my own answer, that perhaps the Fold's design has reached its limit at the moment, we can't ask for it to be too thin because it will trade off with durability, instead Samsung should increase the user experience even more. And as expected, we still have a 3rd generation high-end folding screen smartphone from Samsung with unchanged appearance.

That said, it does not mean that Galaxy Z Fold3 users will be disadvantaged, on the other hand, the outside of the device still has some highlights so that "players" can brag that I am using the latest version of the Samsung family.

The second point for users to show that they are using the latest version is to choose to buy Phantom Green color. Personally, I also quite like this color, although I have not seen it in real life, but with the advertising images, it looks quite luxurious and especially very new in Samsung's product lineup this year.

The feeling of holding this version is also a bit lighter than before, because Samsung has used Armor Aluminum technology for the Z Fold3 frame instead of steel like in the Z Fold2 version. Reducing the weight of the device is necessary because I remember before when using the Z Fold2 in fully open screen mode, I quickly tired my wrists, especially when watching movies or playing games.

Camera technology hidden under the screen is quite potential

With each Galaxy Z Fold life, Samsung seeks to upgrade the display experience. As in life 1, we have a selfie camera cluster that partially obscures the inner screen, then in life 2 users enjoy a more "full" experience with a punch-hole camera. And in this latest version, we continue to come to the hidden camera under the screen.

This technology is applied by Samsung to make the hole of the camera feel more blurred in some use cases instead of a black dot like the previous version. At first, when you look at the captured image, you may find it quite annoying because the mole is still there, it's just much more blurred than before, but when it comes to actual experience, it's not so bad.

Indeed, I myself spent 1 day using it in many different contexts to see if this mole is really invisible or not, and surprisingly most of the time I don't remember it anymore. There are two basic reasons for this, 1 is that this camera part when compared to a 7.6-inch screen is too small and it is also dim according to the displayed content; Second, when I was focused on content such as games, movies or reading books, my vision was focused on the middle and from there the other "mole" was also temporarily hidden from view.

It can be said that this method of Samsung makes us less distracted and uncomfortable when viewing content on the big screen, at least they have succeeded with me.

In terms of photo quality, this selfie camera is only 4MP and also suffers from quite a bit of ghosting, so we shouldn't expect much. However, it should be remembered that the Galaxy Z Fold3 still has a camera on the external screen, so I think Samsung can remove the internal selfie camera for more convenience.

How is the experience on this screen?

Like its predecessor, Galaxy Z Fold3 still has a 7.6-inch inner screen with QXGA + resolution and 2X Dynamic AMOLED panel with 120Hz scanning speed. However, Samsung said that this flexible screen protection film is more improved and more durable than its predecessor by 80%, which means that I use it less worriedly, and play games "strongly". more decisively than before.

An inherent point on Samsung's folding screen phone is that it uses a flexible film, so it is easy to stick to fingerprints after 1 day of use, even the longer you use it, the more difficult it will be to clean it all (or you have to spend a lot of time). than to sit and wipe compared to traditional screens). But the Z Fold3 is already IPX8 waterproof, so I can comfortably add some water and then dry it without worrying too much about damaging the electronic components inside.

The screen doesn't change in size, but I think it's more than enough to experience, comfortable to hold and easy to carry in a pocket. It's truly revolutionary to put a tablet in your pocket.
